Box Score 2 Tucson, Ariz. - After a rough 16-1 loss to North Park to start the day, Bethany bounced back to defeat Marian 4-3 in the second game Thursday in Tucson.
The Vikings got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first when Clint Aretz drove in Lucas Herd, who had doubled earlier in the inning, with a two-out single.
After Marian evened the score in the top of the second, Cory Ferm hit Bethany's first home run of the season to lead off their half of the second to retake the lead.
Bethany trailed though 3-2 going into their half of the eighth. Mitch Sellers doubled to lead off the inning. Joe Tuholsky followed with a single and Sellers scored the tying run on a throwing error by the left fielder. With the bases loaded and two outs, Herd scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error by the catcher.
Eric Kropp pitched a perfect ninth to give Bethany the win. The Vikings (3-7) wrap up their Tucson trip with a doubleheader Friday against Calvin College.
