Offense tough to come by in doubleheader loss to Dubuque

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Minneapolis, Minn. - The Bethany baseball team started swinging their bats better on their spring training trip to Arizona, but a return to the Metrodome quieted those bats some as the Vikings dropped a pair to Dubuque on Wednesday 11-1 and 2-1.

If there was a bright spot from Wednesday it was Cory Ferm (Adel, Iowa/Iowa Central CC). He picked up three of Bethany's seven base hits in the twin bill and had a good performance on the mound in game two. Ferm tossed six innings only allowing three hits and striking out eight. The only earned run he allowed was a third inning home run to Chris Biggs.

Bethany took the lead in game two when Mitch Sellers hit an RBI double down the left field line scoring Nate Lee in the third inning.

Dubuque scored the go-ahead run in the fifth on a throwing error. The Vikings had a runner on in the seventh and final inning, but weren't able to advance him into scoring position.

The losses drops Bethany's record to 4-10 overall. The UMAC and home opener is scheduled for Friday, March 29 against North Central.
