McPartland doubles home winning run as Vikings crack win column for first time this season

Box Score Minneapolis, Minn. - Freshman Matt McPartland (Le Sueur, Minn. / Le Sueur-Henderson) doubled home the winning run in the bottom of the thirteenth as Bethany picked up its first win of the season 2-1 over Macalester in late night action Tuesday at the Metrodome.

Bethany was only able to muster six hits in 13 innings of play, but they were timely hits. In the bottom of the third, Andy Gensch (Apple Valley, Minn. / Iowa Central CC) tripled down the right field line with one out. Lucas Herd (Gaylord, Minn. / Sibley East) then doubled him home tying the game at one.

The game would remained tied at one until the thirteenth. Dylan Gass (Bird Island, Minn. / BOLD) started the bottom half of the frame with an infield single. Adam Geiger (Mankato, Minn. / Immanuel Lutheran) bunted him over to second. After Mitch Sellers grounded out advancing Gass to third, McPartland came up looking to be the hero. He came through by lacing a double down the left field line scoring Gass giving Bethany the extra inning win.

Pitching was stellar for the Vikings. Garrett Benson (Rochester, Minn. / Mayo) started the game tossing seven innings of four-hit ball, striking out eight, and allowing only one unearned run. Cory Ferm (Adel, Iowa / Iowa Central CC) relieved Benson and threw five innings of four-hit ball, striking out seven. Brady Collison (Algona, Iowa / Iowa Central CC) got the win pitching a scoreless thirteenth.

Bethany led the second game 6-2 after five innings before the game was called due to time constraints with hopes of finishing the game later in the season.
