Women defeat Rams with balanced attack

Box Score MANKATO, Minn. --- Four Vikings players scored in double figures led by another double-double performance by Kasslin Swenson as Bethany topped North Central in the UMAC home opener 70-60 Friday night.

The first half was a game of runs. A minute and half in, the Vikings trailed 5-2, but then proceeded to go on an 18-0 run to go up 20-5 with 10:51 left in the half. Bethany would not relinquish the lead the rest of the game. Four different Vikings scored in the spurt as they would the inside-outside game to perfection.

The Rams countered that run with a 9-0 spurt of their own and all nine points came off the hand of Julia Skeesick on three 3s. Bethany steadily rose that lead back up to double digits eventually scoring twice as much as North Central, 42-21, going into the break.

Bethany scored the first seven points of the second half as the lead ballooned to 28 ending all hopes of a comeback by the Rams.

Swenson scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Angie Scheffler nearly had a double-double of her own scoring 14 and getting nine boards. Aimie Wiechmann added 13 points and Jade Pelzl scored 12.

The Vikings had a definite edge on the boards collecting 50 rebounds compared to 27 for the Rams.

Bethany (4-9, 1-1 UMAC) entertains Northwestern Saturday for a 5 p.m. contest.
