Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany women's basketball team hosted their second NAIA school of the week in Mayville State Friday night. The Vikings scored a season-high 71 points, but still fell to the Comets 86-71.
The two teams exchanged leads for the game's first five minutes. A pair of
Angela DeBruzzi jumpers and baskets from
Lacey Ellinghuysen and
Briana Brandts gave the Vikings an 8-7 lead.
Mayville State took control of the game after that going on a 20-8 run over the next five and a half minutes to take a 27-16 advantage. Jenna Lundon proved tough to stop as she scored 16 first half points on 6-for-7 shooting (4-for-5 from three) as the Comets led 43-30 at the break. She would lead all scorers with 27 points.
Mayville built their lead to as many as 24 in the second half at 70-46, but the Vikings showed no quit. They cut the lead in half by going on a 12-0 spurt to make it 70-58 with 6:26 remaining, but that is all the closer the game would get.
DeBruzzi led Bethany with 23 points. Brandts totaled 13 points and added six rebounds. Ellinghuysen scored 11 with seven boards and
Shelby Sicheneder recorded a near double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Bethany (1-5) travels for their next contest Tuesday at Carleton.
