Cougars take down Vikings

Box Score MORRIS, Minn. --- Bethany had another hot shooting game from 3-point range Saturday, but the Vikings had trouble containing Minn.-Morris' Kendra Wycoff who scored 28 points as BLC fell to the Cougars 84-72 in UMAC women's basketball action.

Bethany shot over 55 percent from beyond the arc (10-for-18). Jordan Feis made four of her five attempts, Aimie Wiechmann went 3-for-5 and Jade Pelzl drained three more.

It was that 3-point shooting that helped gain a first half lead for Bethany. Down 18-13, Wiechmann and Pelzl hit back-to-back 3s to start an 18-5 run. Feis ended that spurt with a pair from downtown to give the Vikings a 31-23 lead with 9:26 left in the first.

The Cougars though regained the lead with 2:41 left in the half and scored the final 11 points to take a 50-41 lead into halftime.

UMM kept that momentum they gained at the end of the first half and used it in the second to extend their lead to 18. Feis did all she could to keep Bethany in it. She hit a 3 to cut the deficit to seven at 63-56 with 9:30 left and hit another from deep to trim the lead to five at 75-70 with 2:21 to go. The Cougars would hit their free throws down the stretch to put the game away.

Angie Scheffler had a near double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Both Feis and Pelzl scored 15 and Wiechmann added 11.

Bethany (6-12, 3-4 in UMAC) returns home to start a 3-game home stand Tuesday as they entertain Martin Luther at 5:30 p.m. at the Sports and Fitness Center.
