Box Score MANKATO, Minn. --- The Bethany women's basketball team played inspired ball Friday night against a St. Scholastica team that is a co-leader in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. In a tightly contested matchup, the Vikings led by three at halftime, but came up short, 68-66, when a last second lay-up attempt was blocked that would have sent the game to overtime.
Jordan Feis had herself a career night off the bench. The guard poured in 19 points on 8-for-12 shooting and had steals and lay-ins on successive possessions with 9:06 left in the second half that gave the Vikings a 54-49 lead.
The Saints countered with a 14-3 run to take a 63-57 advantage with 4:16 remaining. CSS later went up six following a 3 from Kelsey Sorenson with three minutes left.
Jade Pelzl's lay-in, foul, and resulting free throw cut the deficit in half at 68-65.
Aimie Wiechmann made one of two free throws with 1:18 left to make the score 68-66.
St. Scholastica's Kayla Swanson missed a lay-up with five minutes to go. Pelzl rebounded and drove the length of the court, but had a lay-up attempt swatted out of bounds with 0.6 seconds to go. The inbounds pass went to
Angie Scheffler all alone underneath the basket, but her tying lay-up try was blocked from behind by Danica Schellbach to preserve the Saints win.
Scheffler did score 14 points.
Kasslin Swenson added 11 and 14 rebounds and Pelzl tallied 11.
Bethany (6-14, 3-6 in UMAC) entertains Northland College Saturday at 3 p.m.
