Vikings lose twin bill to Marian

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz. - After two days off, the Bethany baseball resumed its spring training trip in Arizona with a doubleheader against Marian University.

In the first game, a big fifth inning gave the Vikings the lead. Nate Lee, Deric Poldberg, and Dylan Barth all had base hits to lead off the frame. Blake Kerzich singled to left bringing home Lee. Tyler Hebrink later singled to right to score Barth. Mitch Sellers and Joe Tuholsky also knocked in runs to give Bethany a 4-2 lead.

Barth produced a run-scoring single in the sixth to score Lee to extend the lead to 5-2. The lead wouldn't hold however as Marian scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 5 and then won the game in the seventh with a walk-off single.

Lee and Barth were both 2-for-3.

In the night cap, Bethany got on the board first. Lucas Herd hit a two-out single and then Adam Geiger tripled him home giving the Vikings a 1-0 lead after one.

Marian took the lead with runs in both the second and third. Herd was involved in Bethany's second run when he brought in Kerzich with an RBI single in the third.

Bethany trailed 3-2 going into the sixth when Marian broke open the game with six runs. The Vikings picked up a run in the seventh making the final 9-3.

Two more games are on tap for Friday when the Vikings take on Wheaton and Central.
