Vikings swept by Northland in UMAC opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MAUSTON, Wis. - Bethany took to the baseball diamond for the first time in 25 days Thursday for their UMAC opening doubleheader against Northland College. In a series moved from Ashland, Wis., the Lumberjacks got the best of the Vikings and swept the set 5-4 and 10-0.

In the first game, the Vikings held the lead on two occasions, but weren't able to hang on to the advantage. Joe Tuholsky doubled to center and scored two batters later when Adam Geiger brought him home with an RBI single to left.

Northland tied it in the second, but Bethany regained the lead in the fourth with a pair of runs. Mitch Sellers hit a one-out triple to right center then scored when Dylan Gass singled to left. Blake Kerzich later delivered an RBI single to left of his own to score Nate Lee to give Bethany a 3-1 lead.

The Lumberjacks countered with two in their half of the fourth and plated two more in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead. Bethany scored one in the ninth, but it wasn't enough as Northland held on for the one-run victory.

Kerzich and Lee had two hits apiece as Bethany collected ten hits.

It was all Northland in game two as they shutout the Vikings 10-0 in seven innings.

Bethany (1-13, 0-2 in UMAC) plays Northland again Friday back in Mauston, Wis. at 11 a.m.
