Box Score 3 MANKATO, Minn. - Bethany stepped onto their home field for a game for the first time all season Tuesday for a tripleheader against UMAC foe Northwestern. The Vikings were able to scrounge a 6-5 walk-off win to open the day, but lost the remaining games 13-9 and 6-3.
In the first game, the Vikings had a four run third inning, thanks in part to a two RBI single by shortstop
Mitch Sellers. The Eagles countered with a giant inning of their own, scoring five runs on two doubles in the fifth inning. After tying the game at five, the Vikings got their first home win of the season when
Tyler Hebrink singled to left field to score
Adam Geiger to seal the walk-off 6-5 victory.
The second game of the tripleheader started promising for the Vikings as they led 5-2 through three innings. Even after giving up a three-run sixth inning to Northwestern, Bethany still held a 9-7 lead going to the top of the seventh inning. Northwestern scored six runs in the inning, however, and the Vikings never got any closer, losing the game 13-9.
Lucas Herd led the Vikings with three hits, three runs, and two RBIs for the team in the game, including a triple in the fourth inning.
The third and final game of the series was much like the first, coming down to the wire in the seventh inning. Northwestern held a 6-1 lead going into the bottom half of the frame, but the Vikings wouldn't go down without a fight. After scoring two runs to cut the lead to three, Bethany had the bases loaded and poised for another dramatic walk-off victory before Northwestern relief pitcher Andy Peterson was able to get out of the jam and hand the Vikings a 6-3 loss. Bethany junior
Adam Geiger combined for four runs, seven hits, and three RBIs in the tripleheader.
Bethany next will host Minnesota-Morris on Thursday at 3 p.m.
