Big wins for baseball team against Crown

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 COLOGNE, Minn. - The Bethany baseball team picked up three big wins Saturday against Crown to get back in the hunt for a UMAC postseason berth.

In three seven inning contests, the Vikings prevailed 15-5, 13-5, and 6-0.

Bethany scored early and often in the first game, putting up crooked numbers in each of the first three innings with six runs in the first, four in the second, and two more in the third. The Vikings had only hit one home run on the season coming into Saturday, in the first game, they nailed two and they both came in the fifth inning. Dylan Gass homered to lead off the frame and two batters later, Adam Geiger did the same. Cory Ferm pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out four to get the win.

Crown got on top early in the second game taking a 4-0 lead after two innings. Bethany though scored three in the third to get back in it highlighted by an RBI triple to right center by Joe Tuholsky. Bethany scored four more times in the fourth to take the lead. Geiger brought in a pair with a single in the inning. They would add five runs in the sixth. Mitch Sellers delivered the big hit in the frame with a bases-clearing double. TJ Nowak went five innings to get his first win.

No comeback was needed in the nightcap as Bethany scored two first inning runs. That was all Jake Gleason would need as he went the distance getting the complete game shutout, allowing six hits and striking out four.

Bethany moves to 5-19 overall and 4-8 in the UMAC. Their home triple header with Minnesota-Morris slated for Sunday has been postponed and rescheduled for Thursday, May 1 at 11 a.m. The Vikings are next scheduled to play Tuesday at Martin Luther for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
