Box Score ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Bethany's magical run down the stretch came to an end Saturday on Day 2 of the UMAC Baseball Tournament. In an elimination game at Bethel University's Hargis Park, Bethany fell to Northwestern 4-3. The Vikings finish the season 14-22 overall and 12-9 in the UMAC.
It was a good for start for Bethany as they cracked the scoreboard in the top of the first.
Blake Kerzich doubled down the left field line to lead off. A
Dylan Gass walk and an
Adam Geiger single loaded the bases.
Nate Lee got a hurtful RBI when he got hit by a pitch to bring in Kerzich. Bethany left the bases stranded as they led 1-0.
Bethany starter
TJ Nowak held Northwestern scoreless through five innings. The Vikings extended their lead by adding two runs in the sixth.
Tyler Hebrink singled to lead off and scored two batters later on an RBI single by
Deric Poldberg. After advancing to second, Poldberg scored on an RBI single from
Joe Tuholsky to put Bethany up 3-0.
That lead didn't last long though as the Eagles scored four times in their half of the sixth to take the lead. Austin Adamson brought home two with a double and Aaron Rau did the same with a single.
The Vikings got runners on base in each of the final three innings, but couldn't get the big hit they needed to tie the game.
St. Scholastica defeated Northwestern in the championship game to win its 17th straight UMAC Tournament crown.
