Vikings hang on to top Crown in thrilling finish

Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - Bethany looked to get back in the win column a day after losing at home to Minn.-Morris. In a game that went down to the wire, the Vikings held on to defeat Crown 68-64 in UMAC men's basketball action.

In order to get their second conference in three tries, Bethany needed to stage a comeback. The Vikings trailed 31-26 at halftime and later trailed by ten at 40-30 with 14:48 left in the game. Behind Luke Roddy, Bethany would go on a 16-5 run over the next four minutes. Roddy scored six in the stretch including a pair of lay-ups at the end of the run to put Bethany up 46-45. Their run was extended to 22-5 that gave the Vikings a seven-point advantage.

Crown would not back down though and regained the lead at 64-63 with 1:08 left in the game following a James Brown jumper. Roddy countered with a jumper to put Bethany up 65-64 with 55 seconds left. After Roddy split a pair from the foul line, Crown had a chance to tie or take the lead. They had two chances in the final ten seconds, but could not get the shot to fall down. Miles Kelson corralled a big rebound and sank two free throws with under a second left to ice the win.

Nick Sanborn had a near double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Neil Eichten scored 13 points and Roddy totaled 12.
