Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - In a game that went down to the wire, St. Scholastica outlasted Bethany 51-50 in UMAC men's basketball action Saturday.
Bethany used an early 10-0 run to take 14-7 lead. The Saints countered with an 11-3 run to retake the lead at 18-17. AÂ

After the Saints scored the second half's first five points to take a two-point lead, Bethany countered with their second 10-0 run of the game to take an eight-point lead at 37-29. Eichten started the spurt with a rare 4-point play as he got fouled making a 3-point shot. Brandts scored the last six of the rally and culminated it with a 3 of his own. The Saints though immediately countered with eight straight points to tie the game at 37. Bethany scored the game's next five points and led 42-37 following aÂ

St. Scholastica's leading scorer, Jake Naslund, was held scoreless until he went off and drained three straight 3s to give the Saints a 46-42 lead with 6:07 left in the game.
A Naslund jumper gave CSS a 51-46 lead with 1:41 left. Brandts followed with a 3-point play and an Eichten free throw pulled Bethany within one at 51-50 with 44 seconds remaining.
After holding the Saints on the defensive end, Bethany had a chance to win in the final seconds. Brandts missed a 3 with five seconds left and the rebound went out of bounds on the sideline with seven tenths of a second left. A despiration inbounds pass towards the hoop was deflected and the game came to an end with Bethany on the wrong side of a one-point defeat.
Brandts led BLC with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Eichten added 12 points.
Bethany (3-15, 3-4 in UMAC) next plays at Martin Luther Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
