MANKATO, Minn. – Saturday afternoon featured the Bethany women's basketball team against the Martin Luther Knights in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference game. The Vikings entered play with a 3-5 (1-1 in UMAC) record while the Knights came in at 2-4 (1-1 in UMAC).

Martin Luther defeated the Vikings with a score of 67-63 to drop the Vikings to a 3-6 overall record and a 1-2 record in the UMAC.

Bethany opened the game with a 15-5 run over Martin Luther three minutes into the contest. The Knights would eventually erase the Vikings and take the lead entering half time, 36-31.

Briana Brandts paced the offensive attack for the women's basketball team in the first half, scoring 12 points and collecting four rebounds. MLC outshot the Vikings 38% to 31% through the first 20 minutes of play. From behind the arc, MLC shot 37.5% (3-8) while Bethany went the entire half without a three-pointer. Minnie Frederick-Childress created five turnovers which resulted in seven points.

In the third quarter, Bethany played from behind trying to find answers to the MLC offense. Team defense and ball movement helped the Vikings tie the game at 50-50 going into the final 10 minutes of play. Dakota Ellinghuysen entered the final quarter with 10 points and seven rebounds.

One minute into the fourth, Brandts drained a jumper which gave Bethany their first lead since the first quarter. Both teams continued the conference battle trying to come up with defensive stops which, in turn, would translate into points on the offensive end.

The Vikings continued to battle with the Knights, taking a 63-62 lead after a few turnovers by MLC. With 20 seconds left, MLC capitalized on their free throw attempts to lead 66-63. After a missed three-point attempt by the Vikings, MLC went 1-2 from the line to take a four point lead, which would be the final result of tonight's contest.
