Box Score Women's Basketball Falls in UMAC Opener

MANKATO, Minn. – On Friday night, the Bethany women's basketball team was featured as the Game of the Week in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference when they played host to UW-Superior. The Yellowjackets used their strong shooting to defeat Bethany 79-60.
The Yellowjackets opened the game with a lot of energy and momentum to quiet the home crowd, leading 20-4 minutes into the game. The Vikings stormed backed into the game, slowly chipping away at the Yellowjackets early lead. At half, the Yellowjackets shot 56.7% from the field compared to the Vikings 36.7%, leading 43-36.
Through the first two quarters of play,
Haley Sandin led all scorers with 17 points, shooting 4-8 from the field and 3-5 from three point range. UW-Superior's Hailey Kontny scored 16 first half points.
Throughout the third quarter of play, the UMAC battle continued as both teams exchanged basket for basket with UW-Superior leading by eight entering the final 10 minutes of action.
Halfway through the final quarter of the contest, the Yellowjackets took a 16 point lead over the Vikings. UW-Superior's Hailey Kontny finished the Game of the Week with points

Sandin finished with 23 points while
Dakota Ellinghuysen added 10 points and eight rebounds.
Minnie Frederick-Childress scored 13 points and
Briana Brandts ended with eight points and 16 rebounds.
Saturday, December 5 the Vikings will continue conference play when they welcome the Saints from St. Scholastica to the Sports and Fitness Center for a 5 p.m. tip-off. The men's basketball team will play prior to the women's game, starting at 3 p.m.
