Box Score MORRIS, Minn. - After losing seven straight games, few thought the Bethany men's basketball team had a chance at winning on the road at Minn.-Morris, a team that came in sitting in second place in the UMAC. The Vikings outscored the Cougars by 11 in the first half and held on for the upset win 61-58.
Bethany jumped out to an early double-digit advantage. With the score tied at 5, the Vikings rattled off 13 straight points all scored by freshman
Neil Eichten,
Brady Rose, and
Zach Brandts. Rose scored five in the spurt and Brandts drained a pair of 3s. Later,
Luke Roddy nailed a couple of 3s and
Nate Chadderdon got a lay-in off a Roddy assist to put Bethany up 28-9 with 7:43 left in the first half. The Cougars closed the half on a 12-4 run to cut the Vikings advantage to 34-23 at the break.
The Vikings continued to lead by double digits for most of the second half before Minn.-Morris started their comeback with five minutes remaining. The Cougars cut Bethany's lead to two with 26 seconds left. A Roddy free throw put Bethany up 3. RJ Dean missed a 3 with time running out and the Vikings came away with the huge road win.
Rose led Bethany (4-19, 4-8 in UMAC) with 14 points. Brandts scored 12 and Chadderon scored six points and collected 12 rebounds.
The Vikings next play Friday at St. Scholastica.
