Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz. - Bethany got a great pitching performance from
Lucas Herd and
Cody Leitner in their final spring training game in Arizona to finish a week's worth of games on a good note.
Wesleyan University had won their first six games of the season including a 5-3 win over Bethany in the first game Saturday. Herd and Leitner held a Wesleyan team, that had averaged close to nine runs a game, to one as the Vikings took the nightcap 3-1.
After Herd got himself out of a jam in the top of the second to keep the game scoreless, Bethany put a crooked number on the board in their half of the frame to take the lead. With one out, both
Brandyn Olsen and
Danny Kneeland singled to help load the bases. After an RBI groundout drove in the game's first run,
Taylor Beattie singled down the right field line to score both
Drew Quame and Kneeland to give BLC a 3-0 lead.
Wesleyan got runners on second and third in the third inning, but Herd thwarted another threat by striking out the final two batters.
Leitner came into the game in the fifth after Wesleyan scored in the fourth and tossed three great innings allowing only two hits to save Herd's win.
Bethany begins conference play March 27 at Minn.-Morris.
