Box Score 2 MANKATO, Minn. -
Adam Geiger picked a good time to get his first home run of the 2015 season. His walk-off, 3-run home run capped a 5-run ninth inning rally as Bethany won the second game of their doubleheader with Northland 11-10 Saturday in UMAC baseball.
The Vikings led 5-3 through four innings thanks in part to a 3-run fourth.
Drew Quame and
Clay Anderson singled in front of Geiger who delivered his first run-producing hit with a single through the left side that tied the game at 3. A
Tyler Hebrink sacrifice fly scored
Joe Tuholsky and
Nick Caldeen got a run batted in the hard way when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Northland didn't waste time in answering scoring once in the fifth and five times in the sixth and took a 10-6 going into the bottom of the ninth.
Bethany started the frame with three straight hits. Caldeen led off with a single to left. Pinch hitter,
Josh Montbriand, then doubled down the right field line to move pinch runner,
Danny Kneeland, to third.
Drew Quame's single to left drove in Kneeland and moved Montbriand to third.
Brandyn Olsen's sacrifice fly to center scored Montbriand to make it 10-8. Later, with two outs, Anderson's infield single kept the rally alive with Geiger stepping to the plate. He launched a 1-0 pitch deep over the left field wall to put an end to a thrilling come-from-behind victory.
Northland won the first game Saturday 7-0.
Bethany (13-13, 9-6 in UMAC) is next scheduled to play a doubleheader Thursday at Macalester.
