Saints top Bethany for UMAC crown

Box Score DULUTH, Minn. - The Vikings got two wins on Friday to stay alive at the UMAC Baseball Postseason Tournament advancing them to Saturday's championship round. In their way to obtaining their first UMAC crown was a St. Scholastica team looking for their 18th straight conference tournament title. In a low scoring affair, it was St. Scholastica who come out on top, putting an end to Bethany's season, 3-0.

Nick Dewanz started on the mound for Bethany and had a solid outing going 7 2/3 innings allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits. He retired the first five Saints he faced and kept them off the scoreboard until the third on an unearned run.

St. Scholastica would add single runs in the sixth and eighth innings to take a 3-0 lead into the ninth where Bethany would not go out quietly. Josh Montbriand delivered a one out pinch-hit single. Nolan Grose followed with another pinch-hit single to move Kevin Harris to second who pinch ran for Montbriand. Danny Kneeland then walked loading the bases with one out. Two different Saints' pitchers ended Bethany's rally with a pair of strikeouts to preserve their win.

Bethany ends the season with a 19-21 overall record and 11-10 mark in the UMAC.
