NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Bethany Volleyball team opened their 2015 season at St. Olaf in the St. Olaf Invitational facing some tough MIAC schools. The Vikings opened their season against Augsburg followed by matches against Carleton and Macalester.

After the tough match with Augsburg, Bethany squared off with Carleton and faced another powerful MIAC school that led early and never looked back. Bethany played Macalester in their final match of the day and fell to the Scots 3-0. Highlights from the match came from Alex Hansen (Austin, Minn.) who led the team with eight kills followed by Kristen Mielke and Sarah Haynes (Madelia, Minn.) who both had four kills apiece. Leading the team in assist was Alexandra Grejlak who recorded 14 assists. Anna Nelson (Cannon Falls, Minn.) was the team leader in digs with seven against Macalester.

The Vikings went 0-3 in the St. Olaf Invitational as they battled very tough opponents who compete for MIAC conference titles every year.

Play continues Friday as the team travels to Morris to compete in the University of Minnesota-Morris Tournament as the Vikings take on Simpson at 5:30 p.m. followed by a tilt with Hamline and St. Kates.
