Box Score Central Tops Men's Soccer Team

PELLA, Iowa – Bethany and Central met Thursday night in a non-conference men's soccer matchup in Pella, Iowa. The Vikings entered play with an 0-3 record while the Dutch came into the night with a 2-2 record on the young season. The men's soccer team lost 3-1 to the Dutch who compete in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Vikings senior Forward
Jorge Perez (Colorado Springs, Colo./Fountain Fort Carson) sparked the offense by scoring his first goal of the season in the 28
th minute to take an early 1-0 lead over the Dutch. Osvaldo Trejo answered with a goal of his own for Central in the final minutes of the first period to tie the game at one apiece going into half.

Bethany would be shut out in the second half of play with the only shot coming off the foot of freshman
Kenny Johnson (Otsego, Minn./Rogers). On the other side of the field, Central scored two more unanswered goals by Bryce Leonard and Brett Hardiman to lead their team to a 3-1 victory over the Vikings.

Matt Bitter (Bemidji, Minn.) saved 10 total shots on goal for the Vikings while his team ended the night with two shots on goal.

The men's soccer team will look for their first win of the season on Saturday September 12 when they open up conference play on the road at Crown for a 2 p.m. game time.
