Women's Soccer Shuts down Crown

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The women's soccer team took on the Crown Storm in their first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference matchup for the 2015 season. The Vikings started conference play beating Crown by a score of 5-0.

In Saturday's game, the offense of the Vikings scored early and they scored often. Leading the way for Bethany was senior Taylor Friehl (Albert Lea, Minn.) recording her second and third goal of the season by scoring a goal in each period of play vs. Crown.  Ali Mix (Oklahoma City, Okla./Western Heights) and Nicole Moldstad (North Mankato, Minn./MN Valley Lutheran) set up the goals for Taylor Friehl. The Vikings got their scoring started in the 19th minute when Ali Mix found the back of the net, going over the head of the goalkeeper for Crown. Bridget Hennen (Apple Valley, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) then followed with a goal of her own four minutes later to record her first goal of the season for the Vikings. With minutes left in the first half of play, the Vikings took a 4-0 lead as sophomore Lydia Wildauer (Port Washington, Wis./Luther Preparatory) scored a goal of her own.

Bethany's Goalkeeper, Averi Cash (Ottumwa, Iowa) played all 90 minutes and faced just two shots from Crown to earn the shutout win for the Vikings.

The women's soccer team (2-2-1, 1-0 in UMAC) now face Northwestern on Monday September 14 on the road for a non-conference matchup with the Eagles.
