Women's Soccer defeats the Storm

MANKATO, Minn. – The women's soccer team defeated the Crown Storm for the second time in less than a week. The Vikings beat the Storm last Saturday at Crown by a score of 5-0. Today the Vikings defeated them by a final score of 3-2.

Bridget Hennen (Apple Valley, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) was the highlight of the day for Bethany. The senior captain recorded two goals and one assist to lead her team to a well-played victory. Her first goal came 16 minutes into the game, assisted by Taylor Friehl (Albert Lea, Minn.),  followed by a goal four minutes later to put Bethany ahead 2-0. The Storm did not give in all afternoon. Crown cut the Vikings lead in half in the 42nd minute to put the score at 2-1 entering the last 45 minutes of play.

Early in the second half, Taylor Friehl scored an impressive goal over the goalkeepers head to push the lead to 3-1. The goal was assisted by Nicole Moldstad (North Mankato, Minn./MN Valley Lutheran) and Bridget Hennen.
The Storm did not give in, answering with an unassisted goal in the 79th minute of play to trim the Vikings lead to one. That is how the game would end, 3-2 favoring the Bethany Vikings.

Rachael Heidorn (Fergus Falls, Minn.) made her first career start in goal for Bethany and recorded two saves on the afternoon.

The women's soccer team will now play Martin Luther next Wednesday in a conference matchup starting at 4:15 p.m. in New Ulm, Minn.
