Augsburg defeats Women's Soccer

MANKATO, MINN. – Bethany Women's Soccer welcomed the 2014 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champions, Augsburg Auggies, to Mankato on Tuesday night for a non-conference matchup. The Auggies defeated Bethany by a final score of 9-0.

The Vikings came into the game with a 1-1-1 record through their first three games of the season. The Vikings knew going into the game they were facing a very talented team that made the NCAA tournament a year ago. Augsburg scored their first goal less than two minutes into the game and they did not let up from that point forward. The Auggies scored five first period goals before the Vikings could re-group into halftime. Scoring goals for Augsburg included Marta Anderson (2), Marie Fitzgerald, Nora Edelen, Anne Haugan, Kaitlyn Terrio, Katie Johnson, Megan Willey, and Kaitlyn Terrio.

The Vikings put four shots on goal coming from Nicole Moldstad (North Mankato, Minn./MN Valley Lutheran), Lindsey Stewart (Albert Lea, Minn.), Taylor Friehl (Albert Lea, Minn.) and Sarah Paul (Chisago Lakes, Minn.).

Bethany Goalkeepers, Averi Cash (Ottumwa, Iowa) and Rachael Heidorn (Fergus Falls, Minn.) faced 18 shots on goal from Augsburg, attempting a total of 31 total shots on a night when the field conditions were not ideal for either side.

The Women's Soccer team will now play at Crown on Saturday September 12 in the first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference game of the season for the Vikings.
