Briana Brandts following Crown victory

MANKATO, Minn. – Friday night the women's basketball team topped the Cougars 75-53 in an exciting Upper Midwest Athletic Conference basketball game. On Saturday, the Vikings looked to complete the weekend sweep with a contest against Crown Storm. The Vikings did just that, defeating the Storm 68-51 to earn their third consecutive win.

The women's basketball team is now 8-8 overall on the season and 5-3 in the UMAC. Like the men's team, the Vikings will enter the second half of the season this coming weekend.

Crown stormed out to a 6-0 lead to begin the game before Haley Sandin drained a three to get the Vikings on the scoreboard. Throughout the first quarter of play, Bethany played from behind, trailing 17-13 to start the second. Bethany took their first lead in the contest with 8:09 remaining in the first half.

At the half, Bethany led 36-29 over Crown. Percentage wise, Bethany shot just 32.3% from the field compared to the Storm who entered half at 44%. Sandin led all Viking scorers with 11 first half points while Briana Brandts led all Viking rebounders with 11 total rebounds.

Bethany out-rebounded the Storm on the afternoon 53-31 which proved to be the difference in the victory over the Storm. High scorer for Bethany was Sandin, finishing with 19 while teammate Minnie Frederick-Childress added 18 points, nine rebounds, and four steals for her team.

Brandts finished the game with 12 points and 19 rebounds to record her fifth consecutive double-double and eighth double-double of the season. Dakota Ellinghuysen also earned a double-double by scoring 11 points and collecting 13 rebounds in the efforts over Crown.

Desiree Davis led all scorers with 21 points for the Storm.
