Box Score Saints Overpower Men's Basketball in Second Half
DULUTH, Minn. – The men's basketball team played St. Scholastica on Friday night in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference contest. The Saints played extremely well in the second half of the game to defeat the Vikings 83-62.
After the loss to the Saints, the Vikings fall to 6-11 and 4-5 in the UMAC while the Saints improve to 11-6 and 7-2 in conference play.
In the first six minutes of the basketball game, the Vikings held a 14-2 advantage over the Saints on their home court. Bethany continued to impress throughout the first half, building a lead of 18 points powered by
Austin Bauer. The freshman connected on three three-pointers off the bench for the Vikings. The Saints battled their way back into the game, going on a 24-11 run at the end of the half to find themselves only down five points to start the second frame.
With 16:05 remaining in the contest, St. Scholastica took their first lead of the game, 41-39. In the next five minutes of UMAC basketball, the Saints scored 20 points compared to the Vikings four points to take a commanding lead in the conference game. A second half surge by the home team proved to be the deciding factor on Friday night at Reif Gymnasium.
Looking at the numbers for Bethany: Sophomore
Brady Rose finished the game with 13 total points and seven defensive rebounds to lead all Vikings.
Neil Eichten added 10 points and three assists as the starting guard. Senior
Nick Sanborn and
Brandyn Frelix scored eight points each on the night.
Bethany ended up shooting 39.7% (25-63) from the field and 33.3% (8-24) from beyond the arc. The Vikings only attempted five free throws against St. Scholastica, making four of those five.
Jake Naslund led all Saints scorers with 13 total points while four other Saints reached double figures in the victory over Bethany.
