Box Score Women's Basketball Pull Away from Knights Late
NEW ULM, Minn. – The women's basketball team traveled to Martin Luther on Saturday evening to take on the Knights in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference basketball game. The Vikings took down the Knights by a final score of 58-54.
With the win, Bethany improves to 10-9 on the season and 7-4 in UMAC play while the Knights fall to 9-10 and 5-6 in the conference.
The Knights controlled the first half, leading 27-23 at the break. In the half, Bethany shot just 28% from the field while Martin Luther stood at 35%.
Haley Sandin led all scorers through the first 20 minutes of action with 10 points.
Coming out of half-time is when the Vikings started to find their groove. Bethany took their first true lead of the contest with 01:22 remaining in the third quarter, 39-37. In the fourth quarter, both teams battled back in forth exchanging leads before Bethany converted their free throws late in the game to earn the four point victory over Martin Luther.
Down the stretch, free throws proved to be the difference as the Vikings made 77.8% of their attempts compared to the Knights 63.6%.
Looking at the numbers:- Haley Sandin led the Vikings with 19 points while collecting seven rebounds in 40 minutes of court time.
- Dakota Ellinghuysen chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds in the efforts over MLC.
- Briana Brandts reached double figures with 10 points and nine rebounds.
- The Vikings created 14 turnovers which resulted in 10 points on the offensive end.
- The game saw five different lead changes with the Vikings earning their biggest lead of the with 00:07 seconds left.
- Mariah Schoof and Grace Schultz led the Knights with 12 points apiece.
