Box Score Eagles Put Halt to Vikings Win Streak

MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany women's basketball team welcomed the Northwestern Eagles to the Sports and Fitness Center on Friday night for an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference battle. The Eagles from Northwestern kept their UMAC unbeaten streak alive with a 77-56 victory over the Vikings.

In the first half of play the Vikings shot only 21.2% (7-33) but continued to find ways to stay within a few baskets of Northwestern, trailing only by four entering the half. Bethany connected on 86.7% (13-15) of their first half free throws. For the Eagles in the first two quarters of play, they shot 40% (12-30) from the field and connecting on 33.3% (3-9) from behind the arc.
To start the third quarter, the Vikings scored the first two baskets to knot the game at 32-32. For the reminder of the game Bethany would continue to battle the Eagles, trying to come up with key stops on the defensive end. Northwestern held the advantage but Bethany would show no signs of given in as they battled until the final buzzer.

Briana Brandts recorded another double-double on the season, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds on the night.
Haley Sandin and
Dakota Ellinghuysen added 12 and 10 points, respectively. Bethany continued to show their aggressive style of defensive which resulted in 29 turnovers from Northwestern.

For the Eagles, Amy Berglund led all scorers with 25 points while teammates Regan Cooper and Jessica Cole added 14 and 12 points apiece.

With the loss, the Vikings record stands at 5-8 (2-3 in UMAC) while the Eagles improve to 10-3 (5-0) on the season.
