Women's Basketball Bounce Back against North Central

MANKATO, Minn. – On Saturday, the women's basketball team finished up their weekend schedule with a home contest against the North Central Rams in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference basketball. The Vikings came out of the gates with pressure defense to earn their sixth win of the season.
 
Bethany defeated North Central 70-52 to improve to 6-6 on the season and 3-3 in conference play.
 
Bethany had a strong second quarter on the offensive end of the court, scoring 22 points compared to the Rams 12 points to secure a 37-28 lead entering the half. In the first 20 minutes, Bethany shot 44 percent from both the field and from long range while North Central entered the break shooting 40 percent. Minnie Frederick-Childress scored 11 first half points for the Vikings.
 
In the second half of the game, Bethany continued to impress the home crowd with their sharp shooting and defensive pressure on the Rams. The Vikings created 19 turnovers which helped accumulate 29 points for the offense.
 
Freshman Haley Sandin finished the contest with 22 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in her 33 minutes of court time. Minnie Frederick-Childress added five points in the seconds half to total 16 on the game while Briana Brandts recorded another double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the victory.
 
Bethany shot 45.3 percent from the field compared to North Central who made 34.5 percent of the shots they attempted. North Central's Jamie High recorded 21 points and 22 rebounds in her efforts against the Vikings.
 
The next contest for the women's basketball team will be Friday, January 15^th when the Minn.-Morris Cougars arrive in the Sports and Fitness Center for a UMAC contest.
