NEW ULM, Minn. – Following a 1-3 start to the 2016-17 season, the Bethany Lutheran women's basketball team began Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play on Saturday against Martin Luther. The Vikings survived their first conference game of the season, defeating the Knights 73-71 in overtime.
With the win, the Vikings improve to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in UMAC action while the Knights fall to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in conference.
The Vikings and Knights played the entire 45 minutes of action exchanging buckets and coming up with key stops to keep their teams in the conference rivalry contest.
Dakota Ellinghuysen (Peterson, Minn.) led the Vikings both offensively and defensively. The junior collected 10 total rebounds to go along with her team high 20 points. The forward scored 14 of those points from the free throw line.
Minnie Frederick-Childress (Flint, Mich.) and
Haley Sandin (Zimmerman, Minn.) helped the Vikings overcome the Knights by scoring 14 and 13 points respectively. Frederick-Childress collected five steals and six rebounds while Sandin added nine rebounds and five assists. Junior
Brooke Henning (Worthington, Minn.) added 10 points for Bethany.
The Vikings scored 26 points off the Knights turnovers. The bench play was huge for Bethany as they scored 23 points.

On Tuesday, December 6
th the women's basketball team will welcome the Eagles from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for a non-conference game beginning at 6 p.m.
