Box Score Women's Basketball Loses Battle to Northwestern

ST. PAUL – On Saturday evening, the third place Vikings traveled to Northwestern to take on the second place Eagles in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference women's basketball. The Vikings fell to Northwestern 68-65 in a back and forth contest.
The Bethany Vikings and Northwestern Eagles entered the contest both averaging 68 points per game, ranking in the top half of the UMAC. Northwestern opened the game on a 9-2 run before the Vikings stormed back to take a 14-11 lead through the first 10 minutes.
In the second quarter,
Haley Sandin and
Minnie Frederick-Childress knocked down a pair of three pointers in back to back possessions to extend the Vikings lead to 35-27 at the half.
Sandin paced the offensive attack for Bethany, scoring 13 points while Minnie added nine points and seven rebounds through 20 minutes of action.
The Vikings led for the entire third period of play, taking a 49-42 lead into the final 10 minutes of play. In the fourth, Bethany held a lead of 10 points before the Eagles began their comeback on their home court. The Eagles finished the contest on a 23-10 run to earn the victory over the Vikings.
Looking at the numbers:- Haley Sandin finished the game with 20 points
- Minnie Frederick-Childress had 18 points along with nine rebounds
- Dakota Ellinghuysen added 12 points and seven rebounds
- Briana Brandts recorded 12 rebounds and nine points
- The Vikings shot 35.3% (24-68) from the field and 33.3% (4-12) from three's
Up next:The Vikings will conclude their regular season schedule on February 19
th and 20
th against Crown and Minnesota Morris. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 start on Friday night against Crown.
