Box Score Women's Basketball Outlast Finlandia Lions
MANKATO, Minn. – On Saturday afternoon, the Finlandia Lions stopped by the Sports and Fitness Center for a non-conference matchup with the Bethany women's basketball team. The Vikings were able to defeat the Lions by a final of 86-71.
Haley Sandin scored 19 second half points, 27 points total to help the Vikings pull away in the second half to earn their 12
th victory of the season. Playing her final home basketball game of her Bethany career was
Briana Brandts. The forward finished the contest with 17 points and 14 rebounds to record her 11
th double-double of the 2015-16 campaign.
Dakota Ellinghuysen added 14 points and six rebounds in the efforts over Finlandia. Guard
Minnie Frederick-Childress dished out nine assists to go along with five steals and seven points.
Rachel Sorensen and
Shelby Sicheneder came off the bench for the Vikings and each had eight points while
Sicheneder collected nine rebounds as well.
Bethany finished the non-conference game shooting 37.7% (29-77) from the field and 29.4% (5-17) from beyond the arc. The biggest lead for Bethany was late in the game as they continued to knock down free throws to keep the Lions out of reach. The women's team finished the game shooting 85% (23-27) from the line. The Vikings forced 25 turnovers in the contest with translated into 29 points the other way.
Up Next: The Vikings will travel to North Central next Friday (Feb. 12) night for another UMAC contest. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
