Defensive Blunders Sting Vikings

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Bethany Vikings and the Aurora Spartans played a doubleheader on Friday evening in the Tucson Invitational.
 
The Basics:
  • Final Scores: Aurora University 12, Bethany Lutheran 4, Aurora University 5, Bethany Lutheran 2
  • Record: 1-7
  • Location: Tucson, Ariz. Kino Sports Complex
 
Game One: Aurora University 12, Bethany Lutheran 4
Aurora opened the top half of the first inning scoring three runs, on two hits, while the Vikings committed two errors in the opening frame. In the top of the third, the Spartans added three more runs to take a 6-0 lead after three innings of play. Bethany scored their first two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and another two runs in the bottom of the seventh to make up the scoring in game one.
 
Highlights from the Vikings:
Trent Saharek led the Vikings with three hits while Nick Caldeen added two hits and an RBI as the number three batter in the lineup. Kevin Harris, Drew Quame, and Alex Babcock each added a hit during the contest. Nick Dewanz pitched the game's first 4.1 innings, surrendering eight runs, two walks, while striking out one Spartan. Jacob Duden pitched the final 2.2 innings for the Vikings.
 
Game Two:
The start of game two was played under an awe inspiring, brilliant, clear and calm sunset in Tucson, Arizona. The Bethany Vikings and Aurora Spartans played a closely contested ballgame, but it was the Spartans coming out on top.
 
Highlights from the Vikings:
Kevin Harris and Josh Montbriand collected the only hits for the Vikings in game two of the doubleheader. Anthony Radloff suffered the mound loss, pitching four innings while giving up two earned runs. The lefthander struck out three batters on the night.
 
Up Next:
On Saturday morning, Bethany will finish up their Spring Training trip with a game against Wheaton College. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Kino Sports Complex.
