SUPERIOR, Wis. – After a week off from competition due to unplayable field conditions, the women's soccer team played their second Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) contest of the season on Saturday against UW-Superior. The Vikings looked to build off their conference opener last Saturday when they defeated the North Central Rams 5-0.
The Vikings controlled today's match from start to finish allowing just one shot, while recording 14 of their own to go on to defeat the Yellowjackets by a score a 4-0. With the win the Vikings now move to 4-3-1 overall, and 2-0-0 in the UMAC.
Ali Mix (Oklahoma City, Okla.) started the scoring just over 10 minutes into play with her second goal of the season off an assist by
Rachel Bitter (Bemidji, Minn.) The Vikings struck again just before half as
Bitter netted her ninth goal of the season assisted by
Emily Barthel (Monticello, Minn.).
After attaining a 2-0 lead into halftime, the Vikings scored twice in the first twenty minutes of the second half to solidify their lead.
Nicole Moldstad (North Mankato, Minn.) was the Viking that found the net both times, the first being assisted by
Mix and the other coming with no assist. The two goals were
Moldstad's second and third goals of the season.
