Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Vikings Drop Non-Conference Game to Carleton, 76-73

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Before the Bethany Lutheran women's basketball team begins the second half of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) schedule, the Vikings traveled to Carleton College on Monday night to take on the Knights, a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). The contest went in favor of the Knights – who notched a 76-73 win over the visiting Vikings.

BLC now holds a 7-9 overall record while remaining at 5-3 in UMAC play.

To start the second half of action, the Vikings came out with a ton of focus and energy, scoring the first 10 points of the frame. The Knights came back with seven straight points of their own to take a 48-44 lead with six minutes remaining in the third period. The Knights stretched their lead to as many as 10 early in the fourth period of play before BLC put up eight consecutive points to cut the deficit to two points. The remaining time was a battle, as both teams looked for defensive stops and points on the offensive end to come away with the non-conference win. Carleton did just that, knocking down late free throws to prevail over the Vikings.

Sophomore Haley Sandin (Zimmerman, Minn.) played 34 minutes for Coach Jones. The guard contributed with 26 points and five assists while senior Minnie Frederick-Childress (Flint, Mich.) added 18 points in 36 minutes. Junior Brooke Henning (Worthington, Minn.) added 13 points and five rebounds to the box score.

BLC shot 44.1% (26-59) in 40 minutes of play while draining 33.3% (9-27) from outside range.
