Vikings Lose UMAC Opener to Eagles

MANKATO, Minn.  – The Bethany women's basketball team (5-2, 0-1) lost 52-63 to the Northwestern Eagles (4-4, 1-0) on a chilly and snowy Wednesday night. It was the second game of a doubleheader following the men's game.

The game started slow as it was 10-4 Vikings after the first quarter. Both teams were struggling with turnovers as there were a combined 48 between the two teams in the game. The Eagles found their momentum swing in the second quarter, dominating to a 20-5 advantage. The Vikings offense slowed in the second quarter and they went into halftime down 24-15.

The third quarter was all Vikings as they took the quarter by a 19-11 score. Electric scorer, junior Haley Sandin started to heat up in the second half after a slow first half where she struggled to get in a rhythm. She had 20 points overall, leading the team.

Both teams were clicking offensively in the fourth quarter, but in the end Northwestern found a way to make more shots, taking the game for a big road win.

The Eagles only had one player in double figures in junior Amy Berglund. She finished with 26 points, 16 rebounds and nine steals.

Vikings freshman Abby Olson had a solid all-around game with 11 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Haley Sandin finished with 20 points and Brooke Henning finished with eight points and nine rebounds.
