Vikings Lead from Start to Finish, Beat Saints 65-62

DULUTH, Minn.  – The Bethany men's basketball team (4-5, 2-0) beat St. Scholastica (3-5, 1-1) on the road in the UMAC game of the week. The game was featured as the UMAC game of the week as Scholastica was the preseason favorite to win the league title, edging the Vikings by one point in the preseason coaches' poll. The Vikings led from start to finish and won by a final score of 65-62.
 
The Vikings started the game strong, taking a 12-0 lead before the Saints scored a point. The Vikings lead grew to 18 points, 26-8, before the Saints went on a 12-1 run to cut the score to 27-20. BLC then closed out the half on an 11-3 run of their own to take a 38-23 lead into the break. Blake Lindstrom led all first-half scorers with 11 points, going 3-3 from three-point range. Jake Dale added 10 points for the Vikings on 5-5 shooting from the field.
 
The Vikings came out of the locker room after the break and stretched their lead to 20 points. The Saints would not go away, however, and began to chip away at the Viking lead for the rest of the game, trimming the Viking lead to two points with 14 seconds to go. Freshman guard Jared Milinkovich made one of two free throws and the Saints missed their last shot at the buzzer to end the game.
 
Neil Eichten had a game-high 15 points as well as a game-high six assists. Jake Dale scored 14 points on 7-9 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. Blake Lindstrom scored 13 points and Brady Rose scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
 
The Vikings shot only 38.9% from the field and 29.2% from behind the arc in the game. The Saints shot 31.9% from the field overall and 18.5% from behind the arc.
 
Up Next: The Vikings are on the road again and will play Martin Luther in New Ulm on Wednesday, December 13 at 5:30 PM.
