HANCOCK, Mich. – On Saturday afternoon, the Bethany Lutheran women's basketball team clinched their second consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Postseason Berth with their 83-50 win over Finlandia University.
With the victory, the Vikings improve to 11-12 overall on the season and remain at 8-6 in conference action.
By scoring 31 points in the victory over Finlandia, sophomore
Haley Sandin (Zimmerman, Minn.) enters the final weekend of the 2016-17 regular season schedule next Friday and Saturday only 29 points shy of 1,000 career points.
For the second time this season, junior
Dakota Ellinghuysen (Peterson, Minn.) recorded a double-double with 12 points while bringing down 14 total rebounds. Off the bench for BLC, junior
Rachel Sorensen (Windom, Minn.) connected on 4-of-9 from outside land to end with 14 total points. Senior
Minnie Frederick-Childress (Flint, Mich.) added nine points and nine steals for Head Coach Lyle Jones.
As a team, the Vikings shot 45.1 percent (32-for-71) from the field while making 34.5 percent (10-for-29) from three's. BLC scored 27 points off the Lions turnovers and held the rebound advantage, 48-34. The largest lead was stretched to 36 points with less than a minute remaining in regulation.

BLC will return to their home floor next Friday and Saturday night to close out the 2016-17 regular season schedule. On Friday, the Vikings will play the North Central Rams at 5:30 p.m. The men's game will follow at 7:30 p.m.
