Vikings fall to Superior in overtime

Box Score SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Bethany Vikings (8-6, 5-1) lost on the road to the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets (4-11, 2-4) in overtime on Saturday evening.
 
A low-scoring game in the first half, the Bethany Vikings held a 32-27 advantage after the first 20 minutes. The Vikings were 14-26 (56%) overall from the field in the first half, but shot only 4-13 (30.8%) from behind the arc. Bradley Rose was hot for the Vikings in the first half with 11 points, going 3-4 from behind the arc. He also pulled down five rebounds. The Viking defense held Superior to 10-25 (40%) from the field in the first half.
 
Superior cut into the Viking advantage and took the lead after four minutes of play in the second half. The two teams battled back and forth, trading leads for the remainder of the game. The Vikings had the ball with a chance to win the game in regulation, but missed a contested layup which sent the game into overtime.
 
In the extra five minutes of play, the two teams combined for 35 points, but it was the Yellowjackets who outscored the Vikings 19-16 to take home an 85-82 win. The win for the Yellowjackets gave the Vikings their first loss in UMAC play.
 
Bradley Rose scored 22 points on 7-11 shooting from the field and also had five assists. Jake Dale finished the game with 16 points on 8-9 shooting and also had seven rebounds.
 
Senior guard Neil Eichten surpassed the 1,000 career point mark on Saturday, finishing the game with 16 points. Eichten entered the game eight points shy of the milestone and now has scored 1,008 total points in his career as a Bethany Viking.
 
Up Next: The Vikings are on the road again on Wednesday, January 10 when they travel to St. Bonifacius to play Crown College.
