Mankato, MN. – The Bethany Lutheran Vikings 2018 Women's Soccer season ended when the Vikings took a 7-0 home loss to the College of St. Scholastica Saints. With the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets getting a win over the University of Minnesota-Morris Cougars, and the two teams placing 4th and 5th place in UMAC respectively, the Vikings were not able to make the UMAC conference this season.
The Saints came out early, firing on all cylinders. They were able to score a goal in the 14th minute, and then went on to score six more unanswered goals in the 28th, 38th, 53rd, 56th, 60th, and 84th minutes.
St. Scholastica was able to outpace the Vikings throughout the game, with 28 shots and 19 shots on goal compared to the Vikings 6 shots and 1 shot on goal. The shot on goal for the Vikings came in the 31st minute by
Bailey Bakken, and the 6 shots came from
Bridget Brown,
Bailey Bakken and
Madison Perry.
Bailey Bakken led the Vikings in shots, 121, shots on goal, 69, and goals, 13.
Madison Perry led the team in assists with 10. Both of these players, as well as other key members like
Bridget Brown will all be returning for the 2019 season.
The Vikings say goodbye to three seniors this year,
Kiana Krszjzaniek,
Sarah Paul,
Jessica Berlinger, and
Emily Barthel. The Vikings also say goodbye to their long-time Head Coach Derick Lyngholm, who is going on to coach the Men's Soccer team in 2019. There is no set replacement for Coach Lyngholm at this time. Lyngholm holds the record for most wins in the program's history.
