St. Paul, MN. – The Vikings volleyball team picked up a 3-2 (25-23, 25-18, 22-25, 29-31, 15-12.) win over the Macalester college Scots. The win sets the Vikings record at 11-17. A UMAC record of 8-8 gives the Vikings a fifth place seed in the UMAC Postseason tournament.
The first set went back and forth, but the Vikings were able to pull away towards the very end and secure their first win. The second set brought much of the same, but the Vikings were able to secure another win. The third and forth set both saw Macalester win in a close contest, and the fifth set saw the Vikings win the match 15-12.
Despite the close sets, the Vikings were able to control the stats. They had 60 kills to Macalester's 48, 16 aces to Macalester's 10, and 52 assists to Macalester's 43.
The Vikings were led by
Megan Rutt, who had 22 kills. In her effort, she recorded her 1,000 kill and moved up to third place all time.
Kalli Mathiasen also had 44 assists and both her and
Mindy Poehler had 2 blocks.
Up next: The Vikings will begin the UMAC tournament by facing the College of St. Scholastica Saints in Duluth, MN at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, October 29th.
