Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Written by Ethan Becker

Two Vikings have double-doubles as BLC is off to best start ever

Northfield, MN.  – The Bethany Lutheran College Vikings beat the Carleton College Knights 69-64. The win puts the Vikings record at 6-1, which is the best start they have had since joining the NCAA.

The game started out fairly close, the Knights would jump out to a small lead and then the Vikings would jump ahead to a lead of their own. The first quarter stayed like this, and it ended with a 10-17 Knights lead. The second quarter went along in the same way, except the Vikings would take a small lead going into the half, 31-25. The first half saw the teams battle it out, and the Vikings would pull out a 32%-31% lead in field goal percentage, but the Knights would take a 33%-27% three point percentage lead.

The Vikings came out firing in the second half, going on a 13-2 run behind Abby Olson's 6 points to take a commanding 15 points lead. However, the Knights went on a 14-0 run to end the third quarter to close the gap to one point. The final quarter saw an offensive showcase with the two teams scoring a total of 46 points. In the end, the Vikings were able to squeeze by with the 69-64 win.

The Vikings were able to win in part due to their outstanding work inside the paint. They were able to outscore the Knights 22-20 in points in the paint, and out rebound the Knights 49-38.

Abby Olson recorded her second double-double of the season and her second highest season point total with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Kenlie Pytleski also recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Haley Sandin came close to making a double-double hat trick with 16 points and 9 rebounds.

Up next: The Vikings will face the University of Northwestern Eagles on Wednesday, December 5th at 5:30 p.m. in St. Paul, MN.
