ROSEVILLE, MN – The Bethany Lutheran College women's basketball team is now 7-1 and 1-0 in the UMAC after defeating the University of Northwestern Eagles 74-53. The Eagles hung around for three quarters, but the Vikings used a 25 point outburst in the fourth quarter to break the game open and seal the win.
The Vikings had a six point lead after the first quarter and went into halftime up by four points after the Eagles closed the gap in the second. The Vikings were 3-9 from the three-point line in the first half and would improve significantly on that mark in the second half of play, going 7-14 to finish the game 10-23.
Abby Olson had a monster night from deep, going 7-10 on her way to 27 points.
The Vikings stretched their lead to eight points after three quarters, outscoring the Eagles 19-15 in the third. Bethany continued to put the pressure on and broke out for 25 points in the fourth quarter, running away with a 21 point victory.
Bethany shot 45.2% from the field compared to just 35.5% for Northwestern.
Haley Sandin was the second Viking in double figures, finishing with 15 points.
Hanna Geistfeld scored eight points for BLC and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Up Next: The Vikings are back in Mankato on Saturday as they host the Saints of St. Scholastica at 3 PM.
