Mankato, MN. – The Bethany Lutheran College Vikings Women's Basketball team faced off against the Martin Luther College Knights, and were able to pull out a 97-60 win to make their record 9-1. The Vikings are still undefeated in the UMAC conference.
The beginning of the game saw a back and forth competition; the Vikings would go on a run and get a small lead, then the Knights would come back to get their own lead, and then the Vikings would come back again. The game stayed this way through the end of the first quarter, but the Vikings were able to hold a 20-17 lead.
The second quarter saw much of the same, with the Vikings leading the Knights 31-30 with just over 6 minutes left. Then, the Vikings went on an 18-6 run behind
Abby Olson's 11 points, 9 of which came from three point range.
The second half saw a Viking rampage, with the Vikings leading the Knights by 34 with a minute left in the third quarter. The fourth quarter would see the Vikings increase that lead to 43, and a small run by the Knights at the end would shrink that down to a 37 point victory, by a score of 97-60.
Abby Olson would go on to have a historic night for the Vikings, scoring a school record 36 points and tying the record for most three point shots made at 7. She was also able to tally 9 assists and 7 rebounds.
Hanna Geistfeld would score 22 points with 8 rebounds on the night too.
