ASHLAND, WI – The Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team extended their win-streak to three games after defeating Northland College on the road this weekend by a score of 70-63. The win moves the Vikings to 3-1 in UMAC play and 6-5 overall.
A slow start offensively resulted in a 35-28 deficit for the Vikings after the first half of play. The Vikings shot just 29.6% (8-27) from the field overall and 21.4% (3-14) from three. A bright spot for the Vikings offensively in the first half was their 9-10 mark at the free throw line. The Vikings stayed close by forcing Northland into just 40.0% shooting from the field in the first half including 3-12 from three-point range.
The Vikings found more rhythm in the second half of play to the tune of 42 points. BLC shot 50% from the field and continued their dominance at the free throw line, going 15-19. The Vikings continued to play tight defense in the second half, holding the Lumberjacks to 38.7% from the field and 25% (2-8) from deep.
Trenton Krueger recorded a monster double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Cire Mayfield contributed 18 points and four assists. Though BLC struggled shooting on the night, they dominated the Lumberjacks at the free throw line, holding a 24-4 advantage.
