Vikings survive comeback, beat the Saints 82-64

MANKATO, MN – The BLC women's basketball team moved to 2-0 in UMAC play and 8-1 overall with a convincing win over the Saints of St. Scholastica by a score of …. The Saints are still looking for their first win of the season, falling to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in UMAC play.
 
The Vikings took control of the game early, racing out to a 26-5 lead after the first quarter. The Saints tried closing the gap in the second and narrowed the score to 33-19, but the Vikings retook control quickly and were up 43-21 at the half.
 
The Vikings shot 45.7% from the field in the first half compared to 28.6% for the Saints. Three Vikings reached double-figures in the first 20 minutes as Haley Sandin had 12 points, Hanna Geistfeld scored 11, and Kenlie Pytleski recorded 10 points. BLC also controlled the glass, tallying 12 offensive rebounds.  
 
The Saints marched out of halftime and cut the Vikings' 22 point lead to eight points, outscoring BLC 29-15 in the third quarter. The Saints continued their push in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to just three points, but the Vikings would eventual retake control and win by a final score of 82-64.
 
Hanna Geistfeld recorded a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Abby Olson scored 19 points and dished out six assists. As a team, the Vikings shot 44.3% from the field and 31.8% (7-22) from three-point range. The Vikings had a significant advantage in rebounds as they pulled down 21 offensive boards.
