Box Score 2 TUCSON, AZ. – The Bethany Vikings (2-1) rallied late twice, taking two games from Simpson College (0-4) on day two of their spring trip in Arizona.
In game one, the Vikings used a furious comeback in the seventh inning to beat the Storm. The Vikings were down 3-0 heading into the final inning when they rallied for five runs to take the lead. The Storm scored one more run, but the Vikings held on 5-4.
Cody Leitner started on the mound for the Vikings and went five innings, giving up four hits and three unearned runs with four strikeouts.
Jacob Duden got credit for the win. He pitched 1.1 innings with only one hit and three strikeouts. Offensively,
Grant Becher and
Walker Linde led the way with two hits apiece. Becher also had two RBIs.
In game two, after each team scored one run in the first inning, Simpson College scored two runs in the top of the third to take a 3-1 lead. The Vikings responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead at 4-3. Simpson then scored eight runs over the next three innings compared to just one for Bethany and it looked as if the Storm would secure the win. The Vikings, however, had a different ending in mind and rallied again for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to retake the lead and would hold on for the win.
Kevin Harris had a huge game and led the offense with three hits, including a triple, three runs, three RBIs, and two stolen bases.
John Brown also had a good game with two hits, three runs, one RBI, and one stolen base.
Grant Becher had two hits, one run, and three RBIs for the Vikings.
A host of Vikings pitched throughout the game, but
Adam Fjerstad was credited with the win and
John Brown got the save.
Up Next: The Vikings play one game against Wabash on Tuesday at 3 PM MST.
