Box Score 2 TUCSON, AZ. – The Bethany Vikings (4-4) finished their trip to Arizona with a double-header against Wheaton College (5-3). The Thunder took down the Vikings in both games, winning the first 12-5 and the second 5-4.
The Thunder got off to a quick start in game one, leading the Vikings 7-2 after two innings. The Vikings weren't able to close the gap and five defensive errors made a comeback difficult.
Cody Leitner started on the mound for BLC. He threw two innings, gave up six hits and seven runs, three earned, with no strikeouts.
Diego Martiarena was 2 for 3 at the dish with 3 RBIs.
Jake LaBerge blasted a solo homerun in the sixth inning.
Bethany struck first in game two with two runs in the bottom of the first.
Nick Caldeen drove in both runs with a single up the middle. Wheaton scored one run in the second and third innings to tie the game, but the Vikings retook the lead with two more runs in the fourth.
Tim Pasiuk hit a sac fly to bring Martiarena home and then
Ross Beumer brought
Ben Boran home with an RBI single. A three-run sixth inning for the Thunder helped them regain the advantage and the Vikings were not able to mount a comeback.
Beumer was 2 for 3 with one RBI. Caldeen was 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs.
Hunter Hamers pitched 5.2 innings, giving up eight hits, 5 runs, 3 earned, with one strikeout.
Up Next: The Vikings return to action on Saturday, March 24 against Macalester in Mankato. Game times are 1 and 3 PM.
