Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Mankato, Minn. - On Tuesday, the Bethany baseball team scored 33 runs and notched 39 hits in a pair of victories over the North Central Rams. The Vikings won game one 19-15 before taking down the Rams 14-3 in seven innings in game two.
In game one Bethany jumped out to a major lead early and although the Rams put runs on the board they couldn't muster a big enough rally to get all the way back. Of the nine Viking starters, eight had multiple hits, while
Mylo Hommes, the lone starter who didn't have multiple hits, had just two at bats, one of which was a monster home-run to cap off a big first inning for the Vikings. The Vikings had a 6-0 lead after the first inning but the second inning was no less significant.
Nick Caldeen and
Ben Boran both hit home runs in the inning with
Caldeen hitting his 13th career home run as a Viking which ties him for the career record at Bethany. The Rams scored five unanswered after the second though, and made the score 5-10. In the bottom of the 5th inning Bethany tacked on five more runs thanks to RBI hits by
Grant Becher,
Diego Martiarena, and
Boran to make the score 15-5. The Rams put up two more runs in the sixth before
Becher hit a three-run home run to give Bethany a 18-7 lead. North Central added four more runs in both the eighth and ninth and Bethany added one more in the eighth thanks to a
Martiarena home run to make the final of the contest 19-15.
In game two Bethany took control early once again. After
Cody Leitner shut the Rams down in the first inning,
Ross Beumer hit a solo home-run to leadoff the game for the Vikings and give them an early lead.
Leitner was dominant on the mound throughout the contest and Bethany's bats got hot again to help lead the Vikings to the seven inning victory.
Leitner went six innings, allowed no runs, and struck out seven in the winning effort.
Beumer,
Hommes,
Boran, and
Kevin Harris all posted multiple hits in the game for the Vikings with
Harris and
Boran each having three hits and three RBI's.
UP NEXT: The Vikings will host Crown College on Friday, May 4th with start times of 12 and 2:30 PM.
